Deep Breath.....Here we go!

Deep breath.....Here we go. Hi all! Anyone out there? (cricket...cricket) Uh, well, I am one of those very excited, proud, yet still a little nervous women who has decided to take the plunge and join the Sisterlocks family.

I've been natural on and off again for about 9 years. I had my last perm about 3 years and I will never perm again. Like so many I've had a love/hate relationship with my hair for my entire life. My hair has been thick and dry ever since I can remember. I've been permed, pressed, braided, weaved, blown out, flat ironed, worn it short, long and a worn the all too funky "in-between" length. I've been looking for natural options for sometime now. I'm a swimmer and I try to swim 3 or 4 days a week. Needless to say, swimming doesn't love my hair. I had literally given up. I had actually made an appointment to get a hair cut. I planned to cut it all off (AGAIN) and hoped to have some relieve for a few months when I ran across a blog about Sisterlocks. My best friend has a beautiful set of palm rolled locs. I even helped maintain her locs in her beginning stages. I've watched her hair go from a tiny baby locs to the fab locs she's rockin' today. I thought I knew all there was to know about locs and then I saw a georgeous set of Sisterlocks. In my head I then could hear my great-grandmother saying "Baby, keep living". The Sisterlocks looked so different. I live in DC and I don't think I've ever seen (or at least paid attention to) anyone's locs that look that look like that. I was beyond intrigued.

Finding out more about "Sisterlocks" became my favorite pastime. I used every opportunity I had to research Sisterlocks. I went from never having read a blog in my entire life, to reading every blog I can find about Sisterlocks. I read about everything from true journey of patience that having Sisterlocks will bring, to "what does my husband really think about my hair", to the love affairs so many women had grown to have with their Sisterlocks. This was slowly developing into a light at the end of the tunnel for me. With every blog I read, I became more and more convinced Sisterlocks was the answer for me.

So I contacted a few consultants in my area. I decided to meet with a consultant who coincidentally lives right down the street from me and scheduled a consultation. My appointment went wonderfully. My consultant was professional, very thorough, and extremely patient. She answered all of my many questions and I left there feeling like I had made one of the best decisions in my life. I made my appointment for October 1, 2009 and needless to say I am on pins and needles! I would have had them installed the very next weekend but unfortunately my consultant was booked through September.

So here I am like a kid on Christmas Eve waiting for my Sisterlocks birthday!

I will be sure to keep my blog (I can't believe I actually started a blog) posted with my observations, ramblings, trials and victories.

Prayerfully progressing,

Peach Fuzz
